Bethenny Frankel on RHONY exit: ‘I didn’t want to be arguing about things that didn’t really matter’

Bethenny Frankel opened up on her exit from Bravo’s Real Housewives Of New York City, saying that appearing on the Bravo mainstay lost its purpose for her.

‘It became not who I really was anymore … it’s just not what I wanted to be doing anymore,’ Frankel, 50, said Monday in a chat with Paris Hilton on the This is Paris podcast.

The Skinnygirl mogul said she ‘didn’t want to be arguing about things that didn’t really matter anymore’ amid the ongoing drama on the reality series.

Frankel said that the show has drastically ‘changed’ since the show’s 2008 inception, as when she joined she was ‘broke and didn’t have anything to lose.’

She added: ‘I was there in the beginning when it was something that none of us really even knew what it was. And now it’s something that … people have a preconceived notion about it and they know what’s going to happen.’

Frankel said ‘the time had come’ for her to bid adieu to the show, implying she got bored with the creative dynamics of the show.

‘I mean, how many charity events can we go to?’ she said. ‘How many friends can we not support on vacations and how much drama do we want to avoid and then go right into the drama on the vacation.’

Frankel, who’s working on an HBO Max show called The Big Shot With Bethenny, explained why she returned to the series in its seventh season after departing four seasons before.

‘I was offered a number I felt I couldn’t refuse,’ she told Hilton. ‘I managed to go back on very different terms, legal different terms … I was literally there because of the money. It was a lot of money at that point for me.’

In the exchange, Frankel asked Paris about her thoughts on her mother Kathy Hilton signing onto Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.

‘If there was not a pandemic happening right now and she wasn’t so bored at home, there’s no way that she would have said yes to this,’ Hilton said of her mother, adding that she had spoken with her sister Nicky about the move.

‘I think my sister and I – we just love our mom so much, we’re so close and that show is just a lot of drama,’ Hilton said. ‘There’s a lot of unnecessary arguments – drama is what gets ratings and what sells. So we just don’t really want our mom being involved in that drama.’
